Half term holidays again!

Those half-term holidays have crept up on us again! Reuben doesn't understand a change in his routine, usually he would be going to nursery today but instead we are going out for the day and trying to distract him! As the week goes on he will get used to it!

A few weeks ago we were advised from gastroenterology to remove wheat from Reuben's diet, as he has had unexplained persistent diarrhoea and weight loss for many months. He's had many tests and we have tried removing dairy and fruit also from his diet but with no change so now we are now trying wheat-free. The first week we saw a small change and thought wow this must be it! We got very excited to see a 5oz increase in his weight but last week it was back to his usual bowel patterns and a disappointing 14oz decrease in weight. We are hoping it is a blip and it's because he's had a cold so we'll see how it goes and if there is a change next week at the clinic. It's not been as difficult as we thought it would be taking wheat out of his diet, there are many substitutes for pasta and bread which are in the supermarkets, they're really expensive but he likes them. Everything he eats has to be calorie-rich foods so lots of cheese and butter in his recipes, whole milk, cream and lots of chocolate and ice-creams, I've never fed a child so much fatty food! He loves fruit and vegetables too but we have to limit those a bit because they don't give him enough calories - it's like reverse weight-watchers! I'm sure eventually we will be able to know what is causing his problems and sort it out!

Reuben's head has now healed up nicely where it had to be glued together after his fall, he had a first fitting for his new helmet last week and the final fitting is in November where he will get to keep it and wear it so that he doesn't hurt his head any more when he falls - it might take him a bit of getting used to, but it will mean no more trips to a&e!

His current course of speech therapy is finished for a few weeks, and will continue again soon, he's made really good progress joining words together confidently and really enjoys going to the sessions!

Happy boy climbed into Mummy and Daddy's bed with his blanket! I don't know how such small children can take up three-quarters of a double bed by themselves!
