Bimanual Synkinesis age 32 months
Reuben has a neurological condition called Bimanual Synkinesis that affects his hands which work together involuntarily, he can't help the movements, but he is learning to adapt slowly with the help of physiotherapy, occupation therapy and his portage worker providing exercises which help him to do 2 things at once, so now he is able to pick up something with one hand while still holding something in the other hand without dropping it, this has taken him quite a long time to learn but it's a step in the right direction! I snapped this quick video earlier today - he was distracted a bit by a cat - miaow! He's had this condition since birth, it's fascinating to us to watch his hands, but quite frustrating to him sometimes when he can't do something easily like zip a coat up or use cutlery properly.
