Well we're all back into the routine now phew! We made it through the summer break and Reuben has now settled back into his routine of nursery, portage, clinics etc and you can tell that he loves knowing what's going to happen. His frustrations are less and he gets excited when he knows what's coming up.
Reuben's latest test results have all come back clear from gastroenterology, in a way it's great news, it means there are no more tests to do but in another way it's frustrating because just like his other conditions there is no cause which they can treat in some way. If he had an infection he could be treated with antibiotics and get better or if it was diet related we could remove that from the foods he eats and he would get better but there's nothing going on to explain why he has his symptoms. Some days he has a great day and we feel like he's getting better but then the next day he's back worse than before so it's quite frustrating. Overall though he is improving slowly we feel so we just have to hope that it will continue and we will have more forwards days than backwards days. Reuben's nurse is monitoring him weekly and thinks that when he is about age 3 his system will be more mature and will settle down and quite scarily it's not that long away until he is 3! He has another appointment with the consultant in October and Reuben is to stay off dairy foods until then. We have been writing down things that he's eaten and sometimes it can get quite obssesive poring over the lists and trying to see a pattern to what makes him ill but it gets us no-where really, we just end up going round in circles!
Next monday is the TAC meeting to discuss with all Reuben's team what everyone is doing and what they're doing next. At the meeting will be the connsultant paediatrician, health visitor, specialist health visitor, educational psychologist, speech and language, portage worker, nursery manager, OT and us.
Last week we went to Magna and Reuben really enjoyed the activities, especially playing with the rocks in the construction area and here he is watching the fire tornado with Daddy!
