"Don't worry Mrs. Cross, we'll take good care of him"
and then Reuben is taken asleep into theatre for the next hour and 40 minutes. It's a familiar routine now, every couple of months we take Reuben to hospital to have his spinal cast changed and I always say the same words to the anaesthetist when they take him into the theatre.
Tomorrow we will do it all again.
We are now at the half way stage of Reuben's fixed casting. We have been a year on the program and have a year to go until the next stage. In a way I dread that more than what is going on right now, but we'll deal with that and cross that bridge when we get to it.
I'm posting this video up to show a similar method of casting which is what Reuben goes through if you're interested in the process - it's not an easy watch so please don't press play if you're squeamish but it helps if you want to understand what happens to him and how the doctors and spinal team treat scoliosis.
If you would like any more information or have any questions please ask us we'd be happy to share our experiences with you xx
