Today Reuben had an MRI scan under sedation. He was nil-by-mouth from breakfast and didn't seem to mind, even though they were running late by 45 minutes. The scan took about 50 minutes and he had a full brain and spine scan. The neurologist and paediatrician were looking to see if Reuben had a spinal tether which they thought he had but the scan came back clear and he was diagnosed as having infantile idiopathic thoracic scoliosis. This just means that they don't know the cause. It was mentioned to us on more than one occasion that in babies, scoliosis is a marker to indicate that the child may have a disability or condition such as cerebal palsy which is why he had so many other tests too.
It was decided that Reuben should be referred to a spinal surgeon at Manchester Children's hospital for further tests and investigations from a specialist so we were referred to Mr Neil Oxborrow.
