Latest Medical Stuff....

This week Reuben had appointments with gastroenterology - he has had diarrhoea since he was born really, but  over the last couple of months it has got worse and he has lost weight, (he weighs the same as an average 11 month old) so more tests were done and we have been told to preliminarily take dairy out of his diet completely (again), although at this stage it could be any number of things, and if it continues he will be referred to Alder Hey for camera tests for coeliac and other things. So he's on a soya diet for the mean time until the next appointment in October when we find out the results of the tests he had done.

This week we have also been to Manchester Children's hospital to have his cast looked at by the spinal team, he has a big crack and a soft area at the front, but they said it will be ok until the next change, the important part of the cast is still functioning as it should and providing the stability but there's a fine line and if it gets worse it won't be effective any more so they will bring him in earlier for his next change. At the moment we're due back on Thursday 27th September, but there's also a slot on the 4th if we need to go earlier. They are reluctant to take the casts off and put new ones on unless absolutely necessary, because it isn't a simple process, and it involves general anaesthetic so they prefer to leave it as long as possible and cut down the risks.

Just thought I'd add this picture of him caught in the act peeling the labels off the tins in the cupboard - I've moved them to a higher cupboard now! :o)
