Sometimes I think children know instinctively just when to surprise you with something new. Today I was just finishing buckling Reuben into his carseat and he looked at me straight in the eyes with a smile and said excitedly for the first proper time 'Mummy'!
My heart just melted. It suddenly didn't matter what had just been said a few minutes ago in the paediatricians consultation room, all that faded, my little boy called me Mummy, he knew who I was and that I had a name. It was magical.
It wasn't a surprise today to be told that Reuben had ASD, high functioning Autistic Spectrum Disorder, we've known for a while that different health professionals were coming to this conclusion and today's appointment was to preliminarily confirm this and to start the process of referrals to Educational Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy and a Specialist Health Visitor. When he has seen all these departments they will all meet together and see how to go forward. Reuben just likes having lots of visitors who bring him new and exciting toys to play with :)
On Monday we went to the Wild Boar Park in Chipping, the weather wasn't great but Reuben had a great time, he fed a lamb, tried to hold a chick with some help and enjoyed looking at llamas and watching Esther in the barrel ride. Here he is :)
