Occupational Therapy Session 4 - 15th August 2011

Today Reuben had his 4th intensive session with Angela focusing on his hands. He managed about 50 minutes today which was really good, he's doing more each time. Angela is working on trying to get Reuben's hands to work indendently because he has bimanual synkinesis, a neurological condition which affects his hand movements, they work together and he struggles to use one hand by itself. He has to try and grasp different sized objects and do rolling and shape sorting activities. He is demonstrating a good pincer grasp movement and he's also been learning a few signs so he can communicate what he wants - he can sign bed and food and a few others too.

Reuben has 2 occupational therapists, Angela and Lydia and a physiotherapist, Alison. Lydia comes to see how he is doing overall and see what equipment he needs in the home and while out and makes sure it all fits him and it works. Alison comes to help with Reuben's legs and spine, helping him learn to roll and walk, sit up and move himself around. Angela focuses on Reuben's hands and is doing a regular course of sessions with him.
